Between January 28 and April 8, 2025, the Columbia University Irving Medical Center, New-York, held a weekly course, aimed at equiping health professionals, public health officials, hospital administrators, and other stakeholders with the knowledge and tools needed to prepare health systems for the growing challenges of climate change.
In particular, this course explored how climate change affects health systems through increased disease burdens and extreme weather events, while also examining how these systems can reduce their environmental impact and boost resilience. More than 1.700 participants learned to assess vulnerabilities, implement adaptation strategies, promote sustainability, and engage diverse stakeholders while integrating health equity.
Each session consisted of 50 minutes of theory followed by case studies, representing instances across Europe. Our partner Dr. Chiara Cadeddu, from the Erasmus University of Rotterdam presented the CARING NATURE project as one of these case studies. It was a great opportunity to raise participants awareness of the project findings.
