Objectives
CARING NATURE has 5 objectives and will focus on 3 top sources of GHG emission in the health care sector, representing 70% of non-supply chain emissions: buildings (~35%), waste (~20%), patient travel (~15%). The results related to these 3 objectives will directly produce a positive environmental impact in the Health and Care Providers (HPCs).
The overarching goal of the CARING NATURE is to develop 10 innovative and sustainable solutions to reduce the adverse impact of the healthcare sector on the environment, without interfering with the safety of patients and medical staff. This will be achieved by reaching the following 5 objectives:
Objective 1
Governance
To increase the governance capability of the Health and Care Providers (HCPs), policy makers and investors to implement the green transformation, by using methods and tools that also ensure social and economic sustainability.
Two solutions developed by CARING NATURE:
Objective 2
Buildings
To reduce the environmental impact of buildings’ construction, renovation and energy consumption through the design of support decision making tools and AI-powered energy management.
Two solutions developed by CARING NATURE:
Objective 3
Waste
To reduce and valorise medical waste, food waste and wastewater through on-site pyrolysis, anaerobic digestion and drying processes while producing energy and reducing pollution, and through appropriate medical waste reduction and recycling
Four solutions developed by CARING NATURE:
Objective 4
Patients’ travels
To reduce the environmental impact of patient travel due to outpatient/primary care through the widespread use of next generation telemedicine
One solution developed by CARING NATURE:
Objective 5
Staff engagement
To obtain staff engagement in the green transition of the HCPs with health and care-specific participatory methods for Communities of Practice
