How can healthcare professionals become active drivers of the green transition rather than simply adapting to it? This question lies at the heart of ENGAGE, one of the innovative solutions developed within the CARING NATURE project.

Developed by LUT University, ENGAGE is a participatory tool designed to empower health and care professionals to lead sustainable change within their organisations. Through collaborative methods and practical guidance, it supports healthcare teams in navigating the green transition together, fostering dialogue, engagement and long-term organisational transformation.

ENGAGE has recently been recognised as an Excellent Innovation by the European Commission through the Innovation Radar. This recognition highlights the solution’s innovation potential and its contribution to accelerating the sustainability transition in the healthcare sector.

The development of ENGAGE was led by the IOSS research team at LUT University. Anne Pässilä coordinated the work and developed the tool’s content and illustrations, supported by Helinä Melkas, Satu Pekkarinen and Riika Saurio, whose complementary expertise ensured the successful design and implementation of this innovative solution.

ENGAGE is one of the ten sustainable healthcare solutions developed within the CARING NATURE project. Together, these solutions have all been recognised as Excellent Innovations by the European Commission’s Innovation Radar, underlining the project’s strong contribution to advancing more sustainable, resilient and people-centred healthcare systems across Europe.
