Held at Odisee University of Applied Sciences in Brussels early March 2024, the BioBeo Festival aimed at bringing the concept of bioeconomy closer to education, with the support of the European Commission and as part of the EU Bioeconomy Changemakers Festival. The event featured workshops, lectures, live music, comedy, and interactive activities aimed at engaging students and the public in sustainability and bioeconomy themes.
In particular, this event included hands-on learning for secondary school students, as well as visible participation from EU officials. The event emphasized youth involvement in sustainable initiatives, with strong emotional moments, such as children singing the BioBeo song, reflecting deep engagement.
Notably, the festival rejected fast fashion, branding itself as a circular sustainable fashion event. Participants were encouraged to wear second-hand or sustainably made clothing, aligning with the core mission of the Horizon Europe-funded BioBeo project. This innovative approach promoted environmental values not just through content, but also through practice—encouraging other events to adopt more thoughtful, sustainable choices.
During this major festival, our partner University College Dublin prepared a poster to present the CARING NATURE porjects and its ambitious obkectives towards reducing the environmental impact of the healthcare sector.
