The Planetary Health Annual Meeting (PHAM) is a global gathering of scientists, policymakers, educators, youth, the private sector, and citizens committed to addressing the interconnected challenges of human and planetary health. Held every 18 months, PHAM has previously convened thousands of participants from over 130 countries. Between 15 to 19 April 2024, this 6th edition emphasizes the need for transdisciplinary collaboration, integrating movements like One Health and Environmental Health, and aligning with global agendas such as the UN’s SDGs and the 2024 Summit for the Future.
The 2024 PHAM, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, marks the first time the event took place in Southeast Asia. Organized by the Sunway Centre for Planetary Health at Sunway University, this 6th edition was themed “From Evidence to Action: Confronting Reality.”
During five days, health and environmental experts from all over the world held workshops and conferences. Our partner Ersmus University Rotterdam presented the project with a poster to showcase the important role of CARING NATURE as a driver of sustainable changes within the healthcare sector.
The main outcome of the PHAM 2024 conference was a Global Roadmap for Planetary Health, designed to translate scientific evidence into actionable strategies for influencing policy and societal behavior. Co-developed through a participatory process from June 2023 to March 2024, the roadmap will serve as a practical guide for leaders and stakeholders.
It focuses on four key areas:
-
Reimagining governance for 21st-century challenges,
-
Transforming education to integrate Planetary Health principles,
-
Building a science-informed global advocacy campaign, and
-
Engaging businesses to align operations with Planetary Health values.
