How can sustainability ambitions be translated into concrete change within healthcare systems?
On 30 September 2026, CARING NATURE will join the Horizon Europe projects KitNewCare and NetZeroAICT in Malmö, Sweden, to organise the joint side event “From Evidence to Action: Advancing Sustainable Healthcare through Measurement, Digital Innovation and Implementation.”
Taking place ahead of the Nordic Conference on Sustainable Healthcare, the event will bring together three complementary perspectives on the green transition in healthcare, combining measurement, digital innovation and practical implementation.
Three complementary approaches to sustainable healthcare
Each project addresses the sustainability challenge from a different but closely connected perspective.
- CARING NATURE focuses on translating sustainability ambitions into practical change at hospital level. The project develops and tests concrete solutions ranging from food waste treatment and energy optimisation to telemedicine and participatory staff engagement, with the aim of reducing the environmental footprint of healthcare while maintaining high-quality care.
- KitNewCare focuses on measurement and benchmarking, using a four-factor life-cycle assessment approach to assess health, economic, social and environmental impacts.
- NetZeroAICT explores the role of digital innovation and artificial intelligence, investigating how AI-enabled changes to clinical pathways can reduce resource-intensive processes while safeguarding trust, safety and quality of care.
Moving from evidence to implementation
Rather than presenting three standalone project updates, the event is designed around shared learning and cross-project exchange.
Participants will explore what measurement, digital innovation and operational change can learn from one another, while identifying common barriers, enabling conditions and transferable lessons that can support the transition from evidence to implementation.
The discussions will also contribute to the development of a joint briefing note, translating the main insights from the event into practical implications for healthcare providers, policymakers and industry stakeholders.
For CARING NATURE, the event provides an opportunity to share experiences from the development and testing of practical sustainability solutions in healthcare settings, while learning from complementary approaches developed across other Horizon Europe projects.
